The Wonder Walk: A Ritual for Joyful Movement Outdoors

The Wonder Walk: A Ritual for Joyful Movement Outdoors

Hi, I’m Rachel Elberts, the founder of Stoke Coach here in Park City. My work goes beyond personal training—it’s about holistic wellness coaching that helps people create intentional rituals for a more joyful, grounded life.

For me, fitness isn’t only about building strength; it’s a tool for something deeper. I guide people to design rituals that weave together movement, mindfulness, practical spiritual practices, outdoor adventure, and play. These rituals become pathways back to self-love, to nature, and to joy.

That’s why one of my favorite rituals to share is the Wonder Walk. It’s simple, approachable, and a reminder that wellness doesn’t have to be complicated. All you need is yourself, a few minutes, and the outdoors.

There’s something powerful about stepping outside and letting nature guide your pace. A Wonder Walk isn’t about distance or intensity—it’s about noticing, breathing, and allowing movement to spark presence and joy.

How to Take a Wonder Walk

  1. Step Outside with Intention
Leave distractions behind. As soon as you cross into the outdoors, take one deep breath and feel your body soften.

  2. Loosen Up
Shake out your arms, roll your shoulders, sway side to side. This isn’t about performance—it’s about play.

  3. Walk with Curiosity
Notice the colors, textures, and sounds around you. Maybe it’s the crunch of gravel, the sway of trees, or the way sunlight filters through the leaves. Let your senses lead.

  4. Pause for Presence
Halfway through, stop. Place a hand on your heart, close your eyes, and ask yourself: What do I need more of right now? Let the answer land softly.

  5. Return Recharged
Walk back carrying that intention. Notice how even a few minutes outdoors can shift your energy.

Make It a Daily Ritual (2 pm Reset)

Schedule a daily Wonder Walk at 2:00 pm—that antsy, mid-afternoon window when energy dips and scrolling beckons. Treat it like a meeting with yourself:

  • Add a repeating calendar alert labeled “Wonder Walk: 10–20 min”

  • Keep shoes by the door and a light layer ready

  • Optional: pair it with tea or water when you return to anchor the habit

Why It Matters

A Wonder Walk is more than a stroll—it’s a reset for your nervous system, a chance to reconnect to your body, and a reminder that joy doesn’t have to be complicated.

This is at the heart of my Stoke Coach philosophy: movement as self-love, nature as medicine, and joy as fuel.
